CHESTER — Shortly before noon on Friday, Feb. 21, Officer M. Dunlop, along with K9 Lou and Det. L. Slaughter, responded to assist the Village of Chester Police Department with a panic alarm at Liquor King in the Chester Mall at 78 Brookside Ave.
Upon arrival, they learned that the alarm had been triggered for a vehicle that had been stolen from in front of the store.
Officer Dunlop began canvassing the area and located the stolen white Nissan Sentra less than 30 minutes later traveling on Main Street toward Brookside Avenue.
The driver proceeded through a stop sign at a high rate of speed without stopping.
Officer Dunlop activated his emergency lights in an attempt to pull the vehicle over.
The vehicle continued driving eastbound on State Route 17M before entering State Route 17 at Exit 127.
A few miles later, the driver crashed the car in the median in the town of Monroe.
A 34-year-old Chester resident was taken into custody by Officer Dunlop.
The suspect was charged in the Town of Chester Court with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property and third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer.
He was issued an appearance ticket and multiple traffic tickets.
He was then turned over to the Village of Chester Police Department for further charges and processing.
