BOSTON — Officers with the Boston Police Department’s District D-4 arrested a suspect Saturday morning following a stabbing incident in the South End.
Police said officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at about 9:02 a.m. in the area of 616 Massachusetts Ave.
While en route, the call was updated to a report of a person stabbed.
When officers arrived, they found an adult male victim suffering from a minor laceration.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim told police the incident happened on Camden Street and that the suspect, identified as James Smith, 42, of Boston, stabbed him with a screwdriver before stealing his pills and money.
Smith was reportedly accompanied by an unidentified female.
Officers canvassed the area and found a man matching the suspect’s description near 120 Camden St.
He was with a woman who also fit the provided description.
During a pat frisk, officers recovered a knife and a screwdriver from Smith’s pockets.
A subsequent search revealed a pill bottle with the victim’s name on it and cash stolen in the robbery.
Police later returned the property to the victim.
Smith was arrested and charged with armed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
