AUBURN — Police arrested two people Sunday evening after a fight on Columbus Street resulted in injuries and multiple charges.
Officers responded to 62 Columbus St. at approximately 5:38 p.m. for a fight complaint.
During their investigation, they determined that Jacob J. Van Fleet had violated an order of protection by going to victim 1’s residence.
Police said Van Fleet forced his way onto an enclosed porch by damaging the outside door.
Once inside, he yelled at victim 1 through a locked interior door.
As Van Fleet was at the residence, victim 1’s father, identified as victim 2, arrived.
According to police, Van Fleet then assaulted victim 2 across the street.
He struck victim 2 in the back of the head, and Van Fleet’s mother, Julie Van Fleet, jumped onto the victim’s back, causing him to fall.
Police said that while victim 2 was on the ground, Jacob kicked him in the face, causing his left eye to swell shut.
Police said Van Fleet also punched victim 2’s vehicle multiple times, leaving dents.
An officer arrived on scene and attempted to take Van Fleet into custody.
Van Fleet resisted arrest, and police said Julie Van Fleet pushed the officer in an attempt to obstruct the arrest.
Additional officers arrived, and both suspects were taken into custody.
Jacob J. Van Fleet was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal contempt (felonies), fourth-degree criminal mischief (misdemeanor) and endangering the welfare of a child (misdemeanor) related to victim 1.
Regarding victim 2, Van Fleet was charged with third-degree assault (misdemeanor), fourth-degree criminal mischief (misdemeanor) and resisting arrest (misdemeanor).
He was taken to Cayuga County Jail pending arraignment.
Julie Van Fleet was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration and second-degree harassment.
She was released on an appearance ticket.
