ALBANY — A 44-year-old Schenectady man has been charged in connection with a burglary on North Pearl Street and a bank robbery on Central Avenue, according to the Albany Police Department.

Luke Thomsen was arrested following an investigation by Albany police.

On Sunday, Feb. 23, at around 7:15 p.m., officers responded to Subway at 1 North Pearl St. for reports of a larceny.

Upon arrival, officers learned Thomsen entered the business, forced his way behind the counter, picked up the cash register, and threw it to the ground, causing it to break open.

Thomsen then stole the cash inside the register before fleeing.

Shortly afterward, on-duty Albany police officers observed Thomsen near Grand Street and Hamilton Street.

After a brief foot pursuit, he was taken into custody.

In addition, Thomsen has been charged in connection with a bank robbery that occurred on Friday, Feb. 21.

In that incident, police said Thomsen entered M&T Bank at 911 Central Ave., handed a note to the teller implying he had a weapon, and demanded cash.

The employee complied, and Thomsen fled the bank.

There were no injuries reported during either incident.

Thomsen has been charged with one count of first-degree robbery, one count of third-degree burglary, and one count of petit larceny.

He was arraigned Monday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
