SOUTHPORT — The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Southport man on a charge of grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony, following an investigation into an unfulfilled home improvement contract.

Deputies responded on Aug. 21 to a residence in Southport for a fraud report.

The victim reported signing a contract with S&W Exterior LLC for exterior home improvements, but the work was never completed.

Investigators determined that the victim had issued a personal check for $10,500 to Shane R. Adams, 25, for the work.

Four months after the agreed completion date, no services had been provided.

Authorities served Adams with a lien letter demanding a full refund within 31 days, but the funds were never returned.

Adams was arrested and arraigned in Southport Town Court.

He was released on his own recognizance and given a later court date.
