ROCKLAND — The Rockland Police Department is warning residents about a phone scam involving individuals impersonating law enforcement officers.
Scammers have been contacting residents, claiming to be Rockland police officers or Knox County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
They inform victims that there are warrants for their arrest and provide instructions on how to pay a fee or bail to avoid arrest.
Some calls even appear to come from the Rockland Police Department’s phone number due to spoofing technology.
Authorities emphasize that law enforcement will never contact individuals to request money, donations, fees, or bail.
Residents are advised to hang up immediately if they receive such a call.
The department urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls.
