BOSTON — Officers with the Boston Police Department recovered approximately $24,000 in fraudulent checks and arrested a man following a traffic stop in Roxbury early Friday morning.
At about 2 a.m. on Feb. 21, officers assigned to District B-2 observed a vehicle with excessive window tint make an unsafe lane change in the area of Blue Hill Avenue.
Officers followed the vehicle and saw it speeding and failing to stop for two red lights.
Police initiated a traffic stop near Warren Street and Woodbine Street, where the driver, identified as Kewin Paul, 26, of Roxbury, informed officers that his license was suspended.
During an inventory search of the vehicle, officers found two plastic bags of crack cocaine and placed Paul in handcuffs.
Police also recovered multiple checks with various names and companies, none of which were issued to the suspect.
Authorities later determined that the crack cocaine weighed approximately 16 grams.
Officers seized 29 checks totaling $24,078.77.
Paul was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property over $1,200, possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
He was also issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for multiple traffic violations.
Paul is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
