NAUGATUCK — On Nov. 8, 2024, the Naugatuck Police Department received a complaint regarding a months-long relationship between an adult male and a 13-year-old female.
The complaint involved the exchange of sexually explicit photographs and conversations over electronic devices and social media platforms.
An investigation identified 23-year-old Matheus Gokey of Florence as the individual sending explicit images to the victim while demanding similar content from her.
Authorities said Gokey engaged in sexual conversations with the victim, knowing her age, and used grooming tactics to maintain control over her through false promises over a six-month period.
On Feb. 14, Gokey turned himself in to the Naugatuck Police Department after learning of an active arrest warrant.
He was charged with Promoting a Minor in an Obscene Performance, Enticing a Minor by Computer, and Risk of Injury to a Child.
Gokey was held on a $200,000 bond and arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court on the morning of Feb. 14.
The Naugatuck Police Department thanked the Florence Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
