Poughkeepsie drug raids lead to arrests, large cocaine seizure

POUGHKEEPSIE — Authorities executed multiple search warrants in Poughkeepsie on Feb. 18, leading to the arrests of two individuals and the seizure of large quantities of cocaine, crack cocaine, fentanyl, and other drug-related items.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office Drug Task Force, in coordination with the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Services Unit (SWAT) and other law enforcement agencies, conducted simultaneous raids at a residence on Marshall Street and the Poughkeepsie Commons Apartment Complex.

Officials identified the suspects as Terence Whitted, 49, and Deon T. Elting, 35, who were allegedly selling narcotics in the Poughkeepsie area.

Elting was arrested at his residence on Marshall Street and charged with one count of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the first degree, a Class A-1 felony.

He was arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

Authorities stated that additional charges are pending.

Whitted was arrested at the Poughkeepsie Commons Apartment Complex and charged with one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, a Class A-2 felony.

He was also arraigned in City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.

Additional charges against Whitted are pending.

Law enforcement officials said the investigation is ongoing, with additional arrests and charges expected.

The operation was carried out with the assistance of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Patrol Bureau and Detective Bureau, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department Community Policing Unit and Neighborhood Recovery Unit, the Hyde Park Police Department, the District Attorney’s Violent Crime and Dangerous Drug Bureau, and the New York State Police Crime Suppression Unit.
