ALTONA — State Police arrested Cathy A. Provost, 69, of Ellenburg Depot, N.Y., on Feb. 17 for second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
At approximately 4:38 a.m., troopers responded to a residence on Military Turnpike in the town of Altona after receiving a report of a stabbing.
An investigation determined that Provost and the victim had engaged in a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation.
During the confrontation, Provost used a kitchen knife to stab the victim twice in the chest.
Provost was taken into custody and transported to the State Police barracks in Champlain for processing.
The victim was treated at the scene by Altona EMS but declined further medical attention at a hospital, as the wounds were superficial and not considered serious.
Provost was arraigned in the Town of Mooers Court and released on her own recognizance.
