NORTH NORWICH — The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation has arrested two individuals in connection with an animal neglect case in Chenango County.
On Jan. 22, approximately 56 animals were removed from a property on Mudge King Road in the town of North Norwich.
During the execution of a search warrant, authorities found 30 horses, a pig, seven sheep, four goats, four chickens, seven dogs, and three cats in need of immediate care.
The animals were transported to various rescue locations throughout the area.
More than 12 dead animals, including horses, goats, pigs, and chickens, were observed on the property.
On Feb. 14, at approximately 9:48 a.m., New York State Police arrested Fiona R. Taylor, 24, of Norwich.
On Feb. 18, at approximately 9:11 a.m., authorities arrested Lauren M. McKendry, 47, also of Norwich.
Each woman has been charged with 16 counts of the class E felony of aggravated cruelty to animals under Agriculture Markets Law, as well as 65 counts of the misdemeanor charge of overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, including failure to provide proper sustenance.
Both were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at North Norwich Town Court on Feb. 26.
