HOLYOKE — Holyoke police officers recovered an illegal firearm early Saturday after a vehicle crashed into a home following a pursuit.

Around 2:45 a.m., officers patrolling near Cabot Street saw a vehicle run a red light and conducted a traffic stop near Commercial Street.

The driver, later identified as a 17-year-old female, initially pulled over before speeding away.

A vehicle pursuit began but was later discontinued.

Officers later found the suspect vehicle after it crashed into a porch near the intersection of Northampton Street and Westfield Road.

No one inside the car was seriously injured, and no residents inside the home were hurt.

Officers Joshua Rivera and Jose Millan saw an illegal firearm inside the vehicle.

The driver and a passenger, identified as 19-year-old Shaniquha Thomas of Holyoke, were arrested.

Thomas is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, improper storage of a firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID card.

The 17-year-old will face firearms-related and motor vehicle charges.
