POLAND — A fatal head-on collision occurred on Feb. 17 at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Bakerstown Road (Route 11), according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash involved a 2014 Mazda CX-5 driven by Heather Keniston, 50, of South Paris, and a 2016 Ford F150 operated by Robert Clougherty, 70, of Casco.
Authorities reported that Keniston was traveling eastbound on Bakerstown Road when her vehicle struck a snow drift near Tripp Lake, causing her to lose control and veer into the westbound lane.
The Mazda collided head-on with Clougherty’s Ford F150.
Clougherty and his passenger were uninjured in the crash.
Keniston, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died from injuries sustained in the collision.
She was the sole occupant of the Mazda.
Preliminary findings suggest unsafe speed for road conditions and hazardous weather, including snowdrifts, contributed to the crash.
The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, with assistance from a crash reconstructionist.
Bakerstown Road between White Oak Hill Road and Maine Street was closed for approximately 3 ½ hours while authorities investigated and cleared the scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
