Brookfield death investigation continues after 2 found dead in parked car

BROOKFIELD — Vermont State Police have identified the two people found dead in a parked vehicle on VT Route 14 in Brookfield on the night of Feb. 14.

The victims were Lynn Gilman, 59, and Burton Richardson, 63, both from Rochester.

Authorities located their vehicle on the shoulder of VT Route 14, just north of the intersection with Brown Drive.

Gilman was found in the driver’s seat, and Richardson was in the front passenger seat.

State police responded to the scene after receiving a report of a grey Hyundai Elantra that had been parked for an extended period of time.

Barre Town Rescue arrived to provide medical services, but both individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations launched a death investigation.

Authorities said the preliminary investigation does not indicate suspicious circumstances and that there is no threat to the public.

The Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington will conduct autopsies to determine the cause and manner of death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
