Auburn man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

AUBURN — A local man was arrested early Sunday morning after police discovered cocaine during a traffic stop.

On February 16 at approximately 12:12 a.m., officers from the Auburn Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with an expired New York State inspection.

The driver, identified as Darrel D. Love, 45, of Auburn, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

During the stop, officers observed Love discard a plastic bag out of the passenger-side window.

Upon retrieving the bag, officers identified the contents as an illegal substance.

Love was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a large sum of money.

The substance was later tested and confirmed to be cocaine hydrochloride, commonly known as powder cocaine.

Love was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, a class B felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony.

He was also cited for operating an uninspected motor vehicle, a violation.

Love was processed and released with an appearance ticket.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Perrine Street and Rock Avenue in Auburn.
