West Seneca police report arrests, thefts and scams in weekly blotter

SENECA — The West Seneca Police Department handled a variety of incidents between Feb. 2 and Feb. 8, including arrests, thefts and scams, according to the department’s weekly blotter report.

On Feb. 2, a 26-year-old Buffalo man was arrested after a traffic stop on Orchard Park Road near Ridge Road. The vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen earlier that night.

Buffalo Police took custody of the suspect and impounded the car.

The same day, two unidentified male suspects stole tools from a work van at S&R Flooring on Clinton Street. Surveillance footage showed the suspects arriving in a Honda CR-V and removing the tools.

Detectives are investigating.

On Feb. 3, two 12-year-old boys were caught stealing a package of chocolate chip cookies from Wegmans. The boysconfessed and returned the cookies. Employees chose not to press charges, and the boys were released to their parents.

On Feb. 4, police responded to Oakhill Drive for a report of a 38-year-old man behaving erratically, possibly under the influence of drugs. The man was restrained and taken to a hospital for detox. No charges were filed.

On Feb. 5, police responded to a Covington Drive address after a disconnected 911 call. A woman appeared intoxicated and refused to provide details about the incident. Earlier that day, a suspicious woman was seen going through garbage totes on Allendale Road. She was advised and sent on her way.

On Feb. 6, a 40-year-old Buffalo woman was arrested during a traffic stop in Covington Gardens. She had a suspended license and two outstanding warrants for petit larceny. She was issued traffic tickets and appeared before a judge.

On Feb. 7, an Innes Road resident reported being scammed out of $1,700 in gift cards by someone posing as a PayPal representative. The victim was told to send the gift cards to recover a fraudulent deposit. The investigation is ongoing.

Also on Feb. 7, three vehicles were broken into at Erie 1 BOCES Winchester Academy on Harlem Road. Stolen items included $8 in cash and a Rubik’s cube. Surveillance footage showed three suspects arriving in a stolen vehicle.

On Feb. 8, multiple storage units at Extra Space Storage on Langner Road were burglarized. Padlocks were cut off 13 units, and detectives are investigating what was stolen.

Later that day, a 55-year-old West Seneca woman was arrested for drunk driving after nearly striking another vehicle at the intersection of Clinton Street and Union Road. She failed field sobriety tests and was charged with DWI.
