BARNSTABLE — The Barnstable Police Department announced the arrest of a Centerville man following an investigation into the possession of child sexual abuse material.

During January, authorities were alerted that Sean Dwyer, 45, of Centerville, was in possession of such material.

An investigation was launched by Barnstable Police detectives and patrol officers.

On Jan. 28, Barnstable officers, with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service New England Cyber Fraud Task Force, executed a search warrant at Dwyer’s residence.

A large number of files containing child sexual abuse material were found on his digital devices, leading to the seizure of multiple devices for forensic examination.

Dwyer was taken into custody and transported to the Barnstable Police Department, where he was booked on charges related to child pornography.

He was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Jan. 29 and ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

A bail review hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Barnstable District Court.

The Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case, which remains under investigation by the Barnstable Police Department Investigative Services Division.
