SPRINGFIELD — On Sunday, Feb. 9 at approximately 5:25 a.m., Springfield police officers seized an illegal firearm equipped with a sear selector switch and arrested 25-year-old Devin Garcia on the 600 block of State Street.
Around 4:05 a.m., officers responded to Oak Grove Avenue following a ShotSpotter activation.
Members of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) provided responding officers with a photo of a suspect vehicle.
Detectives using city cameras later located the vehicle on State Street, which had been reported stolen.
Officers found the vehicle in a parking lot on the 600 block of State Street.
Two suspects were located, one of whom fled the scene.
The other, identified as Garcia, was taken into custody.
Inside the vehicle, officers recovered a firearm with a sear selector switch, commonly referred to as a Glock switch, which converts a firearm into a fully automatic machine gun.
Garcia, of Chicopee, faces multiple charges, including possession of a machine gun, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and furnishing a false name.
Additional charges include a default warrant, conspiracy to violate drug law, distribution of a Class B drug, possession with intent to distribute Class A and B drugs, and resisting arrest.
