DERRY — On Feb. 8, at approximately 3:27 p.m., the Derry Police Department was contacted by Parkland Medical Center regarding a 26-year-old male who arrived with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Responding officers found the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound.
An investigation revealed that the victim and a friend, identified as 21-year-old Mark Dolgonos of Brooklyn, New York, were recreationally shooting in a wooded area south of Kilrea Road.
During the activity, a firearm controlled by Dolgonos discharged, striking the victim.
Dolgonos assisted the victim in obtaining medical aid.
Dolgonos was arrested and charged with second-degree assault and reckless conduct.
The victim was transferred to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Dolgonos appeared before a magistrate on Feb. 9 and was released on personal recognizance bail.
He was arraigned on Feb. 10 at the 10th Circuit District Division in Derry, where no plea was entered.
A probable cause hearing was scheduled for March 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the 10th Circuit – District Division – Derry.
The personal recognizance bail issued by the magistrate was continued.
