BOSTON — Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested multiple individuals on firearm-related charges early Sunday following a ShotSpotter activation in Jamaica Plain.

The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Feb. 9 near 51 Prentiss Street. Officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to the area after the ShotSpotter system detected multiple rounds fired.

While canvassing the area, officers observed four individuals who fled upon seeing police. Two of the suspects were seen clutching their waistbands, suggesting they may have been carrying firearms.

Officers pursued the suspects into a nearby residential building, where one suspect discarded an assault rifle-style pistol. Two individuals, identified as 20-year-old Yordany Torres Lara, of Jamaica Plain, and 18-year-old Shawnmathew Smith, of Roxbury, were apprehended. A second firearm, a 9mm “ghost gun,” was later recovered in the building.

A third suspect, a 17-year-old male, was found hiding under a parked vehicle and taken into custody. He was found to have multiple outstanding warrants, including charges related to firearm possession, assault, and witness intimidation.

Torres Lara faces multiple firearm-related charges, including possession of a machine gun and carrying a loaded firearm without a license. Smith is charged with firearm possession, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and trespassing. The 17-year-old male faces trespassing and providing a false name to police, along with charges from multiple outstanding warrants.

All three suspects are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
