DRACUT — A Tesla sedan ended up in the Merrimack River on Friday evening, prompting a response from local authorities.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7, Dracut Police and Fire were dispatched to the area of 189 Merrimack Avenue after receiving a report of a car off the road and into the river.

First responders arrived to find the vehicle approximately 50 feet from shore in the water.

The driver, who was out of the car upon police arrival, stated that he had exited the vehicle before it accidentally rolled into the river.

Due to conflicting accounts about how the car entered the water, the Lowell Dive Team was called to confirm no other occupants were inside.

Divers entered the river and determined the vehicle was unoccupied.

They remained on scene to assist with the recovery of the car from the water.

No injuries were reported, and no charges have been filed at this time.

The Dracut Police Department is investigating the incident, which appears to be accidental.
