HAMPTON — The Hampton Police Department arrested two Maine men on charges related to failing to stop for a police officer and other offenses following a high-speed chase on Feb. 7.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., an officer observed a 2008 silver Mercedes E-Class traveling at an unsafe speed on Winnacunnet Road near Academy Avenue.
The vehicle matched a description in a “Be On the Look Out” alert issued by the New Hampshire State Police for reckless driving on Interstate 95.
The driver, identified as Daytona J. Roode, 25, of Waterville, Maine, allegedly pulled into the Hampton Town Offices parking lot but continued driving recklessly.
The officer activated his blue lights to initiate a stop, but the vehicle allegedly sped away, passing other vehicles before pulling into the parking lot of 369 Lafayette Road.
Roode and his passenger, Zackahira Stewart, 18, of Madison, Maine, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
Roode was apprehended inside a business at the location, while Stewart ran into a wooded area.
Officers reported Roode was uncooperative and found him in possession of a stolen handgun.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen from Maine, and Roode’s driver’s license was suspended.
Officers also alleged Roode was operating under the influence of alcohol.
Stewart was located with the assistance of a K-9 unit and witnesses.
He was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and charged with unlawful possession/intoxication and loitering and prowling.
Roode faces multiple charges, including driving after suspension, DUI, receiving stolen property, and resisting arrest.
He was held overnight at the Rockingham County Jail and arraigned on Feb. 7.
Bail was set at $5,000 cash, and a probable cause hearing is scheduled for Feb. 14.
Stewart was issued a summons to appear in court on April 8 and was transported to the Rockingham County Jail in protective custody due to his intoxication.
No injuries were reported, and the case remains under investigation.
