Rutland man cited on DUI charge after driving to school for work drunk

RUTLAND — Vermont State Police troopers arrested a Rutland Town man on suspicion of driving under the influence after he drove to the West Rutland School on Friday morning.

Dennis McLaughlin, 53, was taken into custody at about 8:57 a.m. after troopers were dispatched to the school at 713 Main St. to assist the Rutland County Sheriff’s Department’s school resource officer.

Co-workers reported McLaughlin appeared to be impaired by alcohol when he arrived at work.

Troopers observed indicators of impairment and subsequently arrested McLaughlin.

He was processed at the state police barracks in Rutland and released on a citation to appear at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Rutland.
