UNH student arrested on child sexual abuse image charges

DURHAM — An 18-year-old University of New Hampshire student from Salem has been arrested on eight counts of possession of child sexual abuse images following a three-month investigation by the Durham Police Department, University of New Hampshire Police Department, and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force.

Mohammed F. Abughosh was taken into custody on Friday, Feb. 7, after a search warrant was executed at a residential dormitory building on the UNH campus.

He is currently being held at the Strafford County House of Corrections awaiting a bail determination hearing.

ICAC task force members assisting in the operation consisted of the Portsmouth Police Department, Concord Police Department, Bedford Police Department, Salem Police Department, the Strafford County Sheriff’s Office, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

During the search, multiple electronic items were seized.

The investigation is ongoing and there may be additional charges at a later time.
