SPRINGFIELD — A 78-year-old Chester man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after police stopped his vehicle on Charlestown Road.
Alvin T. Bailey was taken into custody at 9:19 p.m. on Feb. 1 after officers observed his black GMC pickup truck allegedly failing to maintain its lane, according to a press release from the Springfield Police Department.
Police had earlier been alerted to be on the lookout for the vehicle, which was reported to have been operating erratically after crossing into Springfield from Charlestown, New Hampshire.
After conducting a traffic stop, officers allegedly observed signs of impairment and screened Bailey for driving under the influence.
He was then transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing.
Bailey was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division in Woodstock on Feb. 18 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the alleged DUI charge.
He was subsequently released.
