BROOKLINE — Early this morning, Brookline Detectives arrested John Gavin, a 34-year-old Brookline resident, for offenses related to sexual communications over the internet with as many as six girls who were ages 12-17 years old.
The investigation indicates that these girls were located in states throughout the country, to include Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, West Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.
At the present time we do not have any victims identified from Massachusetts.
Gavin is reported to be a teacher in Boston at the Josiah Quincy Upper School, and worked at the Hayes (Heath) School in Brookline as a Paraprofessional from January-August 2020.
According to the complaint, Gavin had been engaging in sexual communications with girls aged 12-17 over Discord, which is an instant messaging platform.
It is alleged that during some of these conversations Gavin disclosed that he is a school teacher, enticed the girls to send nude photos of themselves, and sent photos of himself.
Brookline Detectives were assisted in their investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Squad, Boston Police Crimes Against Children Unit, and MA State Police – Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Gavin is being charged with Enticement of a Child Under Age 16, Dissemination of Material Harmful to Minors, Enticement of Child Under Age 18 to Pose in State of Nudity, and Possession of Visual Material of Child Depicted in Sexual Conduct.
The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
