GRAY — Maine State Police responded to a 3-vehicle crash at mile marker 59 northbound at approximately 12:39 p.m. Thursday.
As traffic began to slow, a secondary crash involving 5 passenger vehicles and 2 tractor trailers took place.
As a result of these crashes, the Turnpike was shut down for over an hour to clean up the crash.
Four of the vehicles needed to be towed.
Two operators were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Driving too fast for roadway conditions was a primary factor in the crash.
