WESTPORT — A routine patrol led to the arrest of a man for drug trafficking and possession in the early hours of Feb. 5.
Officer Sean Munzing of the Westport Police Department initiated a motor vehicle stop at approximately 1:38 a.m. on State Road after noticing a vehicle without a front license plate.
The driver, identified as Walter Brewster Gomes, informed Officer Munzing that he did not have his driver’s license with him at the time of the stop.
A subsequent check revealed that Mr. Gomes was operating the vehicle with a suspended license.
Officer Munzing proceeded to arrest Mr. Gomes, and during the booking process, a search uncovered a significant amount of narcotics.
Authorities found one bag of suspected crack cocaine weighing 31 grams, another bag containing 29 grams of suspected cocaine, and 18 suspected Adderall pills.
Mr. Gomes now faces charges including motor vehicle offenses, one count of Trafficking a Controlled Substance (Class B), and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class E).
The Westport Police Department is conducting further investigation into the incident.
