NORWALK — A motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of a Stratford man on gun charges, police said.
On Feb. 5 at 6:41 p.m., a Norwalk patrol officer was conducting motor vehicle enforcement in the area of North Water Street.
The officer observed the driver of a vehicle commit a moving violation and initiated a traffic stop.
During the stop, Niza Clarke, 20, a passenger in the vehicle, attempted to run from the scene but was apprehended by officers.
Clarke was found to be in possession of a firearm, which officers seized before taking him into custody.
Clarke, who resides at 193 Mary Ave. in Stratford, is a supervised party on parole and is registered on the Deadly Weapon Offenders Registry.
He was charged with illegal manufacture of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm/ammunition/defense weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, interfering with an officer, and failure to wear a seat belt.
Clarke was held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20.
