NEWINGTON — Multiple residents have reported receiving fraudulent phone calls from individuals claiming to represent the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department, the Newington Police Department warned on Tuesday.
The callers allege that the residents are in contempt of court and must pay a fee to avoid charges.
The Newington Police Department has issued a scam alert, advising the community that neither police departments nor courts will ever solicit payments over the phone.
Residents are urged not to provide any personal information to the callers, to hang up immediately, and to refrain from engaging in conversation.
The police are asking anyone who has received such a call to contact them to report the incident.
The Newington Police Department emphasizes the importance of staying vigilant and encourages residents to share this information to prevent others from falling victim to this scam.
