WEBSTER — A joint investigation by the Webster and Southbridge Police Departments has led to the arrest of a man on charges of sexually assaulting a minor over a two-year period.

The investigation began in November when a victim reported she had been assaulted by Jonathan Torres, 41, of Oxford Ave. in Dudley.

According to Webster Police Department Detective Phillip Hurton, the victim was 14 years old when the abuse started.

The assaults took place in both the Webster and Southbridge communities.

Torres, who was known to the victim and had previously lived in Southbridge before moving to Webster, was found to have sexually assaulted the victim on multiple occasions in both towns.

Following a thorough investigation, Detective Hurton applied for an arrest warrant from the Dudley District Court on Feb. 4.

Southbridge Police Detectives also obtained a warrant for the offenses that occurred in their jurisdiction.

Attempts to apprehend Torres at his workplace were unsuccessful, but he later turned himself in at the Webster Police Department.

Torres faces several charges, including Rape of a Child with Force from the Webster Police Warrant, and Rape of a Child with Force, Assault to Rape of a Child, and Indecent A&B on a Person 14 or Over from the Southbridge Police Warrant.

Held overnight on $10,000 cash bail, Torres was arraigned the next day at the Dudley District Court on Feb. 5.
