Sudbury police urge vigilance amid rise in break-ins targeting South Asian homes

1 min read

SUDBURY — The Sudbury Police Department is urging residents to take precautions following a recent increase in break-ins targeting homes of Indian and South Asian descent.

The most recent incident occurred on Skyview Lane, where an unoccupied home was entered through a first-floor door.

Authorities are collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office to investigate the pattern of crimes.

Police recommend residents make their homes appear occupied by using interior light timers and motion-activated exterior lights.

They also advise ensuring alarm systems are activated, even if residents are away, and locking all windows and doors, including second-floor entries.

Additional tips include securing garage doors, suspending mail or newspaper deliveries during absences, and avoiding social media posts about travel plans.

Residents are encouraged to ask trusted neighbors to monitor their properties and report any suspicious activity to police.

The department emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation to address the issue.
