Springfield police seize stolen firearm, drugs in Heyward Street arrest

SPRINGFIELD — On Feb. 4 at approximately 12:30 p.m., Springfield police officers assigned to the C3 Unit and Squad “B” seized a loaded firearm, heroin, cocaine, crack-cocaine, and arrested three suspects on the 0-100 block of Heyward Street.

Around 11:40 a.m., officers responded to Heyward Street for a drug complaint.

They received information that a subject or subjects in a pickup truck were allegedly selling drugs to individuals in recovery.

Members of the Springfield Police C3 Unit assisted with the call.

Upon arrival, officers located the truck with three occupants inside and two individuals standing nearby.

When the individuals outside the truck noticed police, they distanced themselves from the vehicle.

Officers conducted a traffic stop after determining the truck was not properly registered.

The driver, identified as Orlando Navarro-Borges, 48, of Springfield, was seen manipulating something in his lap and refused to immediately show his hands.

Officers recovered cocaine Navarro was attempting to conceal and placed him into custody.

The front seat passenger, identified as Christine Hernandez, 35, of Springfield, was found in possession of heroin and was also arrested.

The rear seat passenger, Francisco Semprit-Ramos, 49, of Springfield, was taken into custody as well.

During a search of the truck, officers recovered crack-cocaine, cocaine, and heroin packaged for sale.

They also located and seized a large-capacity firearm loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition.

The firearm had been reported stolen out of Indiana.

In the back seat, officers found numerous Massachusetts DTA cards and credit/debit cards belonging to individuals not present at the scene.

Navarro-Borges has a prior conviction on firearm charges out of Dudley District Court.

He faces multiple charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, possession with intent to distribute Class A and B drugs, and receiving stolen property.

Semprit-Ramos is charged with possession with intent to distribute Class A, B, and E drugs, conspiracy to violate drug law, and multiple default warrants.

Hernandez faces charges including possession with intent to distribute Class A, B, and E drugs, conspiracy to violate drug law, and multiple arrest warrants.

All three suspects are scheduled to be arraigned in Springfield District Court.
