NEW HAVEN –– A Waterbury Police Department detective was involved in a shooting incident in New Haven on Jan. 29 while assisting a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration task force, authorities said Monday.
Detective Martin Scanlon was executing a search and seizure warrant at an apartment on 719 Grand Avenue when the incident occurred.
The detective was unharmed, but the incident resulted in injuries to other officers involved.
Waterbury Police Chief Fernando Spagnolo expressed relief that Detective Scanlon was safe and extended his wishes for a quick recovery to the injured officers.
The department is cooperating fully with the Connecticut Office of Inspector General’s investigation to ensure a thorough and transparent review of the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
