Rhode Island State Police make multiple arrests, including drug charges and fraud

PROVIDENCE — A series of arrests were made by the Rhode Island State Police at the Lincoln Woods Barracks on Monday, following various investigations coordinated with local police departments.

At 2:30 p.m., Jace Firnges, 29, from Providence, was apprehended on charges of obstructing an officer in duty.

Firnges was located by the Cranston Police as part of a barracks investigation, processed, and later released on a date set for further court proceedings.

By 3:15 p.m., Joan Rothermel, 59, from Warwick, was arrested on charges including obtaining money under false pretenses and fraudulent use of credit cards, following a residence check.

Rothermel was released after processing with a scheduled future court appearance.

In subsequent operations, at 7:45 p.m., Robert Mudge, 38, from Pawtucket, faced arrest for vandalism, reckless driving, and disorderly conduct; he remained in custody overnight.

Martina Vidaurreta, 25, from West Warwick, and Amanda Newton, 25, from Woonsocket, were both detained after a vehicle stop around 11:28 p.m. on Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, on separate drug possession charges.

They are held as probation violators and pending arraignment.

Shortly after, at 11:43 p.m., Johnasha Thompson, 29, from Providence, was taken into custody for shoplifting and conspiracy charges stemming from a Smithfield Police case.

Thompson was processed and transferred to the Smithfield authorities.
