NORTH KINGSTOWN — In two unrelated incidents on Thursday, Rhode Island State Troopers made arrests following traffic stops in North Kingstown.

At 2:49 p.m., officials arrested Jeremy Smith, 39, of Blackstone, Massachusetts, on a Providence Superior Court bench warrant for failing to appear at a pre-arrangement conference.

The initial charge was second-degree sexual assault, according to the Woonsocket Police Department.

Smith was apprehended during a vehicle stop on Route 1 and taken to the Wickford Barracks for processing.

He was later transferred to the Men’s Intake at the Adult Correctional Institute.

Later, at 9:48 p.m., troopers detained Bogdan Nowak, 62, of Palm Beach, Florida, on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and refusal to submit to a chemical test, both first offenses.

Nowak was stopped on Route 4 and processed at the Wickford Barracks, where he was arraigned and released to a responsible adult.
