NEW BEDFORD — Detectives with the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau arrested a 21-year-old man following a foot pursuit on Jan. 31 that led to the seizure of a loaded handgun.

Detective Jonathan Miranda had received information that Dwayne Watkins was in possession of a firearm.

At about 8:30 p.m., officers conducting surveillance in the central sector of the city spotted Watkins near the Tremont Street and James Street intersection.

Watkins fled on foot as officers approached, clutching an item tightly to his body.

He was apprehended in the rear of a nearby yard, where he was found to have a loaded .380 Smith & Wesson handgun.

Watkins was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without an FID card.
