WEBSTER — A 23-year-old Webster man was arrested early Sunday morning following a high-speed vehicle pursuit through Webster and Dudley, authorities said.

At approximately 2:30 a.m., Webster Police Officer Shane Murray was patrolling East Main Street when he observed a vehicle traveling 57 mph in a 30 mph zone.

When Officer Murray reversed direction to address the speeding violation, the driver turned onto North Main Street and accelerated.

Officer Murray briefly lost sight of the vehicle but located it again near Cemetery Road in Dudley.

The driver then turned off the vehicle’s lights and continued driving at a high rate of speed through several streets in Dudley, including Oxford Avenue, Pleasant Street, and Main Street.

Officer Murray attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver led police on a pursuit, traveling in excess of 70 mph.

During the pursuit, the vehicle nearly struck a Dudley Police cruiser.

Officers from both Webster and Dudley police departments eventually stopped the vehicle on West Main Street in Dudley.

The driver, identified as Nathan Ryan of Thompson Road, initially did not comply with police commands but ultimately exited the vehicle and was placed under arrest.

Officer Murray noted signs that Ryan was intoxicated, and he was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no inspection sticker, a marked lanes violation, and speeding.
