4 ounces of meth oil, 20 firearms seized in Erin drug bust

ERIN — On Feb. 4, the New York State Police Troop E Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team (VGNET) executed a search warrant at 61 Staples Road following a three-month-long investigation

Authorities seized approximately 4 ounces of methamphetamine oil, 1 ounce of crystal methamphetamine, scales and packaging materials for narcotics, and $4,700 in U.S. currency.

Twenty firearms were confiscated, several with defaced serial numbers, including an AK-47 assault rifle, an AR-10 assault rifle (Ghost Gun), an SKS assault rifle, two sawed-off shotguns, eight bolt-action rifles, one lever-action rifle, and six shotguns.

Additionally, 11 high-capacity ammunition magazines and approximately 10,000 rounds of assorted ammunition were seized.

Approximately 20 pounds of binary explosive material were removed by the BDU, and chemicals and equipment used in the manufacture of methamphetamine were removed by CCSERT.

Robert R. Budnick, 42, of Erin, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd (A-II Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd (C Felony).

He was arraigned in the Town of Horseheads Court and remanded to the Chemung County Jail on $250,000 bail or $1,000,000 bond.

Buck L. Bates, 40, of Elmira, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th (A Misdemeanor) and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Erin Court on Feb. 25.

The investigation is ongoing.
