Old Orchard Beach high school cleared after threat, no danger found

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — A potential threat prompted a swift response from police at Old Orchard Beach High School on Jan. 31, after a call came into the Scarborough Communication Center around 3:30 p.m., following the end of the school day.

The caller, who was near the high school in their vehicle, alerted authorities to the potential threat.

Police units immediately responded to the scene, securing the high school and other educational facilities in the area as a safety measure.

Despite the early concern, no active threat was identified.

As a precaution, all schools were evacuated, and students who were still on the premises were transported to an alternate location for reunification with their families.

Authorities conducted a comprehensive search of all school properties and the surrounding areas, which resulted in an all-clear.

Deputy Chief David Hemingway of the Old Orchard Beach Police Department stated that the information gathered during the investigation has led them to believe there is no credible threat to the schools or the community.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Old Orchard Beach Police.

Residents and parents were relieved to hear the news that no danger was present, and normal school activities are expected to resume without interruption.

The police department has ensured the public that they will remain vigilant and prioritize the safety of the students and staff.
