MONTGOMERY — Police responded to a call late last night reporting a barrage of gunfire and possible explosions in the area of Russell and Tekoa roads.

At around 9:30 p.m., residents of Montgomery reported hearing what sounded like 100 shots fired, with some also reporting explosions near the reservoir.

Officers from the Russell Montgomery Police Department swiftly arrived on the scene to conduct an investigation.

To bolster their response, the department called in additional assets, including the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, Fire Marshal’s Office, K9 Unit, Drone Unit, and Crime Scene Services.

After approximately five hours of thorough searching in the adjacent wooded area, authorities located three individuals believed to be connected to the incident.

The suspects were taken into custody and are scheduled for arraignment at Westfield District Court this morning.

The Russell Montgomery Police Department extended their gratitude to the Northampton Control Dispatchers for adeptly managing communications throughout the ordeal.

They also praised the collaborative efforts of the Massachusetts State Police, Montgomery Fire Department, Russell Fire Department, Hilltown Ambulance, and Russell Highway Department for their invaluable support during the incident.

While the situation is still under active investigation, officials plan to release more details when available.
