Broadway reopens after morning crash in South Portland

SOUTH PORTLAND — Broadway has reopened to traffic and power has been restored as of 4 p.m. today following a morning accident that caused a temporary closure and knocked out traffic lights, according to the South Portland Police Department.

The crash occurred at 8:08 a.m. when a vehicle struck a utility pole near the intersection of Broadway and Lincoln St. The driver, a 33-year-old woman, was transported to Maine Medical Center by South Portland Fire Rescue with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Broadway was closed from Cash Corner to Lincoln St. as Central Maine Power conducted repairs to the damaged infrastructure.

During the closure, the South Portland Police Department issued citations for imprudent speed, failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle, and changing the course of travel when unsafe.

Further investigation by the city confirmed that snow removal operations had been completed in the area of the incident at 7:38 a.m., approximately 30 minutes before the accident took place.
