Providence man charged with child pornography possession

PROVIDENCE — A 20-year-old Providence resident was arrested on charges of possessing child pornography, Rhode Island State Police announced Wednesday.

Steven Tropman-Contreras, of 47 Ledge Street, was taken into custody by the Computer Crimes Unit/Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force on Jan. 24.

After processing at the Lincoln Barracks, Tropman-Contreras appeared before Providence District Court for arraignment.

The Honorable Judge Capraro presided over the arraignment, releasing Tropman-Contreras on $5,000 personal recognizance.

The conditions of release include no unsupervised contact with minors and restricted internet use.

In a separate incident, the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Ernest Trahan, 49, of 65 Bernon Street, on Jan. 27.

Trahan, wanted for failing to register as a sex offender, was arrested without incident and is now in the custody of the Providence Police Department.
