Hopkinton traffic stop leads to discovery of weapons, drugs; two arrested

HOPKINTON — A routine traffic stop by Hopkinton police on Jan. 26 led to the arrest of two Rhode Island men after officers found loaded firearms and drugs in their vehicle.

At 6 p.m., a Hopkinton Police Sergeant pulled over a car driven by Julien Santiago, 22, of North Providence, on Main Street.

Santiago was found to have an active arrest warrant from West Warwick and was taken into custody.

During the stop, police discovered an open backpack in the vehicle containing a loaded .45 caliber Glock pistol.

The front seat passenger, Javier Campuzano, 20, of Providence, was ordered out of the car and dropped a loaded .9mm 3D printed pistol as he exited.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded .223 caliber rifle, marijuana, scales, packaging equipment, and approximately $1,600 in cash.

Santiago faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm while delivering a controlled substance, carrying a pistol without a license, possession of a firearm by certain persons prohibited, having a loaded weapon in a vehicle, possession of large capacity feeding devices, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, and conspiracy.

Campuzano was charged with possession of a firearm while delivering a controlled substance, carrying a pistol without a license, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of a ghost gun, and conspiracy.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
