SPRINGFIELD — Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) detectives arrested 20-year-old Damian Scott on Saturday around noon, in connection with a Thursday night incident where detectives were shot at.

The arrest occurred on the 200 block of Carew Street, under the direction of Sgt. David Robillard.

Scott, who was wanted for numerous outstanding arrest warrants, was recognized earlier that day by a Springfield officer working an extra detail at Mercy Hospital around 9:45 a.m.

Scott is suspected of being involved in several car thefts in the city and, at the time of his arrest, had four warrants related to auto theft and a warrant for cocaine trafficking.

Additionally, FIU detectives charged him for being the driver of a vehicle that crashed on Grayson Drive and Fox Road on Thursday night after the shooting incident on Fernald Street.

Due to his history of evading police and the active warrants, detectives have requested a dangerousness hearing for Scott with the District Attorney’s office.

Scott faces charges including receiving a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, and multiple other warrants for offenses such as operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, violation of an abuse prevention order, conspiracy to violate drug law, and trafficking cocaine between 100-200 grams.
