ELLSWORTH — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Bangor Road at the intersection of Shore Road on Jan. 24 at 7:24 p.m., according to the Ellsworth Police Department.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene following the report of the crash.

Despite immediate medical care, the pedestrian, identified as 74-year-old James Card of Ellsworth, died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Investigators report that a 2017 Toyota Camry, driven by 68-year-old Robert Tallent of Surry, was heading south on Bangor Road when it collided with Card, who was in the same travel lane.

Preliminary findings suggest Card was retrieving tools that had fallen from his vehicle, which was parked at the intersection.

Tallent, who was unharmed and the sole occupant of the Camry, is cooperating with authorities.

The Ellsworth Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation, including a crash reconstruction to determine the specifics of the incident.

The final report, once the investigation concludes, will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.

Responding to the accident alongside the Ellsworth Police were members of the Ellsworth Fire Department, Northern Lights Ambulance, and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
