Early morning fire in Danby claims a life, investigation underway

DANBY — A residential fire early Friday morning has resulted in a fatality, according to Vermont State Police.

The blaze, which broke out at approximately 7:25 a.m. at a home located at 3111 Old Otis Rd., was battled by firefighters from the Danby and Tinmouth fire departments.

During their effort to control the flames, a body was discovered within the residence.

The deceased has been transported to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to establish the victim’s identity and the precise cause and manner of death.

While the Vermont State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations and the Fire and Explosion Investigation unit are looking into the origin and cause of the fire, as well as the circumstances of the death, they have not suggested that the incident is suspicious at this stage.
