DOVER — A teenage driver was arrested following a nearly 30-mile high-speed pursuit by New Hampshire State Police on Monday night.
Troopers from Troop A barracks attempted to pull over a black 2013 BMW 335xi at 8:34 p.m. for traveling 95 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 16 northbound.
Rather than complying, the driver, later identified as 18-year-old Thomas C. Smart of Goshen, Connecticut, accelerated to speeds up to 137 mph, driving recklessly and ignoring police signals to stop.
The pursuit, which lasted about 15 minutes, came to an end after law enforcement deployed a tire deflation device.
Smart lost control of the vehicle while attempting a quick turn, causing the BMW to end up in a ditch.
Smart was arrested at the scene and charged with felony reckless conduct, along with misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and disobeying a police officer.
He was not injured in the crash and has been held in preventative detention.
A passenger in the vehicle was also unharmed and has not been charged.
State Troopers received assistance from the Wakefield Police Department, Wakefield Fire Rescue, Rochester Police Department, and Milton Police Department during the incident.
Authorities are asking anyone with further information to contact Trooper William Bohnenberger at [email protected].
