WESTON — A swatting threat targeting Weston High School led to an early dismissal and building evacuation on Tuesday, police said.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., the Weston Communication Center received a call from the Weston, Massachusetts Police Department regarding an unsubstantiated social media threat to their school that potentially had connections to Weston High School in Connecticut.
Detective Mogollon began investigating to identify potential suspects and determine the credibility of the threats.
School resource officers were immediately dispatched to the high school to initiate safety protocols.
Chief Henion and Captain Miceli responded to a pre-designated incident command post along with Superintendent Barbiero, Principal Conetta and school district administrators.
As a precautionary measure, the Weston High School Emergency Operation Plan was activated, leading to an offsite evacuation and early dismissal of all students and staff.
The building was searched and cleared by approximately 12:30 p.m., with authorities determining there was no threat to public safety.
Detective Mogollon identified a potential suspect later that evening, sharing the information with the FBI and Massachusetts authorities.
Police emphasized that the investigation remains active and further information will be released when appropriate.
Authorities noted that such swatting incidents have become common in the region and urged parents to discuss the severity of making online threats with their children.
