NEW BEDFORD — Two males, including a juvenile, were arrested Thursday night after detectives from the New Bedford Police Department’s Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau seized two firearms following a foot chase.

Detectives were conducting surveillance in the North End around Myrtle and Weld Streets when they spotted two individuals wearing ski masks at around 7:30 p.m. The two appeared to be concealing their hands inside their sweatshirts, prompting police to approach them, which led to a pursuit on foot.

Damian Breton, 19, of 32 Maitland St. Apt. #3, was seen reaching into his waistband and throwing an object into a backyard on Smith Street during the chase.

Police apprehended Breton and recovered a Smith & Wesson firearm loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

The second suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, was observed discarding an object over a fence while running on Chestnut Street.

Authorities took him into custody and located another Smith & Wesson loaded with nine rounds.

Breton and the juvenile have been charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a large-capacity firearm.

The minor was transported to the Brockton Department of Youth Services.

Det. Eric Boulay led the arrest. The New Bedford Police Department encourages anyone with information to contact them anonymously at 508-99-CRIME or submit a tip via their website.
